Ida Ljungqvist was named Playboy Playmate of the Year 2009 at a ceremony held at The Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas Saturday night. African-born Ljungqvist was Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in March 2008, and becomes the 50th woman to hold the Playmate of the Year title. A student was shot and killed outside a high school in Providence, Rhode Island, on Wednesday. The unidentified male 15-year-old student was shot outside the Providence Career and Technical Academy before 2 p.m. local time, the Providence Journal reported. The student was first reported to be in critical condition but later died from his injuries, according to NECN. The shooting reportedly stemmed from a fight, according to WPRI. The high school, which provides both academic education and technical training, was in only its second day of classes on Wednesday when the shooting occurred outside.

The organisers of a major Indian science conference have distanced themselves from speakers who made some unusual claims during the five-day event held in the northern city of Jalandhar. The speakers, one of whom was the vice chancellor of a South Indian university, claimed Hindus invented stem cell research thousands of years ago and said Einstein’s general theory of relativity was wrong.
